Communication network is an indispensable infrastructure in a modern society. Emerging 5G mobile services and the data expansion in data centers which is used for AI and big data analysis are causing a huge traffic increase in the world. Further increase is foreseen in “new normal” era, where much more social activities go online.
Optical communication technologies have enabled such communication network by providing high capacity data transmission.
Optical communication technologies are used in various areas in communication network, from access network connecting the base stations for mobile services and customer premises to telecommunication carrier’s network to submarine cable systems crossing oceans.
We are conducting research on advanced optical communication technologies.
